Thelma "Terry" (Haffenden) Leon, 90, passed away at Rolling Hills Health Care Center in New Albany, Indiana on Sunday, August 29, 2010. Terry was fluent in three languages, a phenomenal seamstress, an expert knitter, and an accomplished organist. She welcomed any challenge that life presented and would eventually conquer it. Thelma was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in New Albany.
Terry was born in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Ivan C. and Eunice (Campbell) Haffenden. She is also preceded in death by her husband of nearly 61 years, Robert Leon; a sister, Barbara Morales; and son-in-law, Bob Nielsen.
She is survived by her daughter, Gloria Nielsen of New Albany, Indiana; sisters, Hazel Leon of Lancaster, Pennsylvania and Hyacinth Crucet of Howard Beach, New York; and grandchildren, Robert Nielsen and his wife, Rebecca of Jordan, Utah and Shani Nielsen of Manhattan, New York.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at Newcomer Funeral Home (formerly Generations Funeral Home, 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, IN). Her funeral service will be 11 AM Thursday, September 2, 2010 in the Paul F. Kraft, Sr. Memorial Chapel at Newcomer Funeral Home with entombment to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
