Tammy Lynn Powell, born on June 16, 1959, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025, after a long battle with breast cancer since 2018, in New Albany, Indiana. She left this world surrounded by love, with her beloved Partner of 27 years, Kenny Short, and her devoted family by her side.
Tammy was a compassionate and nurturing soul who dedicated her life to caring for others. After attending some high school, she pursued a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), working with a home health company to support the elderly and the sick. Her innate ability to connect with those around her made her a cherished figure among her patients, embodying kindness and dedication throughout her career.
A free-spirited and quick-witted individual, Tammy had an undeniable love for animals, often rescuing strays and welcoming them into her heart and home. Her nurturing nature extended beyond pets, as she was a devoted mother to her children and a loyal partner to Kenny. She was proud of watching her family grow and thrive, and her legacy will forever be felt in their lives.
Tammy's family includes her dear Partner, Kenny Short; her loving Mother, Carol Ida Rowe; her children, Venessa (Terry) Green, Michael (Brandi) Leber, Jr., and Craig (Melody) Dyke; her brother, Greg Powell; and her sister, Debbie Gatton. Tammy took immense joy in her grandchildren—Alexis, Dylan, Tori, Breanna, Colten, Aubrey, Kailey, Aliana, and Kodi—as well as her great-grandson, Lucas. Each moment spent with her family was a treasure she held dear.
Tammy was preceded in death by her Father, Cecil Powell; her sisters, Cheryl Minton and Lisa McGuire; and her grandparents, Thelma and William Walkowski. Their memories undoubtedly brought her comfort throughout her life.
