Sylvester Stewart Jr., born September 21, 1936, in Louisville, Kentucky, peacefully passed away on August 21, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and creativity.
A proud veteran, Sylvester honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Beyond his service, he was known for his many talents as both an artist and a man of remarkable creativity. His passion for life, family, and expression touched everyone who knew him.
Sylvester was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vernice Stewart; his mother, Marie Stewart (Cochran); his father, Sylvester Stewart; his son, Paxton Stewart; his brothers, James and Raymond Stewart; and his sister, Betty Jean Stewart.
He is survived by his children: Sylvester Stone, Keith Stewart, Maria Persley, Eric Stewart, and son-n-law Brian E Persley. He also leaves behind a brother, George Stewart; many cherished grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will forever treasure his memory.
Sylvester’s life was one of resilience, artistry, and devotion to his family. He worked and retired from the City of Louisville’s Park and Recreation. He faithfully attended Newburg Apostolic Church, where he deepen his personal relationship with God. His presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who loved him.
