Susan Margaret Krakowski, age 82 of Louisville, Kentucky passed away Monday, December 15, 2025. There were joyful tears in heaven when Susan Margaret (Routin) Krakowski (née Davis) reunited with her parents, Fountain Clay Davis and Elizabeth Ann Davis (née Logsdon), brother Patrick Davis, sister Marian Charlene Davis and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Given a deep and inherent love of all creatures by St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals, Sue saved countless tame and wild beasties. If you listen closely, you'll hear a chorus of happy yaps beyond the rainbow bridge. Wagging tails of all types join best boy Spencer - her sheltie, who brightened Sue's life for 16 years - in welcoming their two legged momma home.
Still, there are 82 years' worth of friends, colleagues and neighbors, as well as the people she'd chat in line with at Kroger, the bank, and every job she worked. They would most surely say that their day had been the better just for crossing paths with "Susie", or any of the beloved monikers given her - Momma, Granny, Gigi, and maybe one or two not to be mentioned here.
Sue is most likely calling from heaven that she wants to be remembered as a loving and devoted mother. This is 100% true. Many in her life, however, would point out that she blessed her world in so many other ways.
Like her beloved mother, Sue had a green thumb. She had a hand for poetry, acted in high school and played adult softball for years. She could play ukulele and sing all the old ditties. And boy, could she dance.
All her kids knew Momma had a mind for budgeting. It would have been impossible, otherwise, to keep a house and raise four kids on half a shoestring budget. Her ingenuity and keen money sense made everyone in the family feel wealthy, even on a tight budget. She consistently helped support her community through the years. If ever there was a need to raise school funds or money for Susan G. Koman or the animal shelter, give her a week, two paper clips and a phone, and that program would be funded or that collection goal met.
Sue was gifted with a heart that reached out to love family - family by blood and by choice. If anyone was sick or mourning the loss of a loved one, they got delicious food. A new baby received a hand crocheted baby blanket. Friends of friends of friends were invited to her legendary Derby parties. If you left the house without leftovers, you had obviously said something against either John F. Kennedy or "Driving Miss Daisy".
At risk of offending some, Sue was a true bad*** even at 79. She lived on her own, worked part-time, drove herself everywhere, and still made her famous cookie plates for her doctors and neighbors, the mail lady, the bank lady and ...
But one broken hip led to another that led to illness that led to assisted living. After more than two years of fighting hard and hitting rehab like Schwarzenegger used to hit the gym, the dear Lord decided Sue's work on Earth was done. She died peacefully, after family had said their goodbyes, on December 15th, 2025.
Left to celebrate her life are her sister, Angie (Richard) and sister of the heart (AKA sister-in-law) Stacey; children, Paul (Mary Ellen), Theresa (Jack), Ursula (Cliff) and Amy (Frank); umpteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Lest she thinks they are forgotten, we also include Sue's dearest nieces and nephews - as well as her daughters and sons of the heart - who have held an incredibly special space in her life these many years; and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 1pm to 6 pm on Friday, December 19, 2025 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky 40243, with a celebration of Sue's life at 6pm there.
Memorial donations can be made to Mass of the Air - Archdiocese of Louisville, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Her family would like to extend sincere thanks and deepest gratitude to the care teams at Twin Oaks Assistance Living in New Castle, KY; and in Louisville, to Franciscan Health Care Center; Frazier Rehab Brownsboro, Norton Brownsboro and Norton Audubon; as well as her caring and committed GP, Amanda Terrell.
