Susan was passionate about education. She earned a Master of Science and Doctor of Arts degrees in Medical Technology from The Catholic University in Washington DC. During her 20 year academic tenure she served in academic and administrative leadership positions, achieved the rank of full professorship, taught immunology and hematology courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and was awarded several grants that advanced the understanding of clinical laboratory sciences. Susan was recognized as a talented and creative teacher who instilled an enthusiasm for learning in her students, and as a challenging, supportive educational leader who developed, expanded and improved academic offerings and teaching excellence. She made significant contributions to several professional organizations, including editing an internationally recognized Technical Series on Hematology, serving on national grants review committees and holding executive level positions in clinical laboratory science organizations. Susan's unwavering emphasis on the importance of quality education made a meaningful impact on the programs, organizations, faculty, and students.
Susan's quest and greatest accomplishment was her personal relationship with her Heavenly Father. Although never satisfied she strived to know more of, serve and obey the Lord. In her actions she brought the saving message of the Father to many people. She was the voice of encouraging words and council to family and friends. As a member of Southeast Christian Church she served in the Care, Paraclete and New Member Ministries. Many in the local community remember the Easter Pageant Stage production put on by Southeast Christian Church. Susan served the church as leader of the prop team and was responsible for the researching, designing, and the production of props in support of the Easter production. She served in this position for more than 10 years. Many close and loving relationships grew out of the church and Pageant experience, which she truly cherished. Susan enjoyed painting (both water and oil), pottery and sewing. She supported the children of Kenya by making dresses out of pillow cases and mentoring women released from prison through the Hand and Feet ministry.
The family would like to thank her best friend Lois, and the In-patient Hosparus Unit who cared for her to the end, along with all those who lifted her in prayer throughout this journey, to the Wednesday Night Bible Study group, and the Journey Class.
Susan loved unconditionally and devoted her life to serving others. Her memory and spirit will live in the hearts of many. Anita
Well done, good and faithful servant!
