Suellen (Joyce) Wilkinson, 70, of New Albany passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at Floyd Memorial Hospital. Suellen was a woman of God and a loving wife, mother, sister and friend. She was very active in numerous civic, political and philanthropic organizations.
Suellen had over 50 years of experience in administrative, executive, and leadership positions in state and local government, in the private sector, and in non-profit organizations. She served in a variety of roles with the Wisconsin Attorney General, State Treasurer, Governor and State Houses. She held elected positions within the Democratic National Committee and the Wisconsin Democratic Party, including State Chair. In 2008, Suellen retired after 16 years as Development Director and Business Manager with the Carnegie Center for Art and History, in New Albany, IN. Throughout her life, Suellen was engaged with each community where she lived. Her contributions included chairmanship and other services for: Rauch, Inc. board; numerous city, county and regional civic boards; several Carnegie Center and Library boards; and Professional Women and Democratic Party associations.
Suellen was born on September 30, 1945 in Briggsville, WI, to the late John and Marlea (Fabian) Joyce. She is survived by her loving husband of over 26 years, Edward Wilkinson; children, Michael Albrecht, Todd Albrecht, E. Allen (Triza) Wilkinson, N. Scott (Nadine) Wilkinson, Tracy (Lisa) Wilkinson, Michelle (Robert) Reynolds; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; siblings, John (Cathy) Joyce, Loretta (Walter) Grueninger; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Theresa Jucenas, and brother, Peter Joyce.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, IN, 47150. Burial will follow at Abundant Life Memorial Gardens in New Albany. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2016, at the funeral home and will continue on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
