Stewart "Dean" Owsley, 70, of Corydon, Indiana, passed away on Sunday morning, September 24, 2017. He was proud of his service to his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Dean was the entrepreneur of three different businesses and the inventor of the "Owsley Drop Saddle." Dean was outgoing and a lover of crafts, which included bookbinding and upholstery. Above all, Dean was known for his loving character and for being the pillar of his family. When not spending time with his family, he could be found tinkering in his workshop.
He was born on September 9, 1947, in Pekin, Indiana, to the late W. Stewart and Carrie E. (Temple) Owsley. Dean was also preceded in death by his brother, Daniel N. Owsley.
Dean is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara (Batliner) Owsley; children, Dena Owsley Seng, Derek Owsley (Monica), and Kevin Owsley (Denyael); brother, Dobert Owsley; 10 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 29, 2017, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and after 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. His Funeral Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with cremation to follow according to Dean's wishes. He will be laid to rest privately at New Albany National Cemetery.
