On March 1, 2021, Stephens Devon Henderson of Shelbyville, KY, entered into the kingdom of Heaven. Stephens was born on March 23, 1966 in Los Angeles, CA and, after serving in the United States Marines, spent several years in Las Vegas before moving to Shelbyville, KY to be with the love of his life, Shelby.
Stephens is preceded in death by his father, Henry Robert Henderson, his mother, Mary Celestine Dilqule, his twin brothers, Derek and Damon Henderson, his mother-in-law Sarah Kendall.
Stephens leaves behind a wife of nearly 17 years, Stephens and Shelby have been together for 20 years and they were soul mates from the beginning. Stephens also leaves behind several nieces and nephews that he helped his wife and mother-in-law raise when he moved to Kentucky. Tamara, Delbert, Tony, Francesca, Amelia, Marina, Dakota, Cylus and Sarah will miss their uncle Steve every day. Stephens and Shelby also had a God son, Aiden, who will miss his uncle Steve as well. Stephens also leaves behind many family and friends.
Stephens (known growing up as Stevie) grew up in a close-knit family environment which included three of his aunties, Veronica, Amie, and Ester Dilqule, each of who had children of their own which made family gatherings a great experience. Aunt Carolyn and Stephen's mother, Mary, were close and Carolyn played a significant role during Stephen's informative years. Ruth Dilque (Grandmother) provided the quintessential matriarch guidance to Stephen in helping him to be a respectful and courteous young man. Stephens also had several cousins while growing up, a couple were more brothers than cousins, and they will greatly miss their cousin deeply.
During his life, Stephens served his country and was always proud to say that he was a Marine. He loved to talk to anyone who would listen about his time in the service. Stephens also continued to serve in other ways after getting out of the Marines by becoming a paramedic in Las Vegas. After working many years as a paramedic, Stephens and Shelby met and Stephens moved to Kentucky to be with her.
One of Stephens proudest moments was when he graduated from the University of Louisville with his Bachelors Degree. He then continued his studies and received his Masters Degree from Southern New Hampshire University. He loved watching NASCAR and basketball, especially the Lakers. He also enjoyed going to the movies and working puzzles.
Everyone who knew Stephens knew that he loved his wife, his family and his sports, but for everyone who really knew him, they knew that the true love of Stephens heart was his dogs. While Jillybean and Junebug are missing their dad terribly, you can be sure that Stephens is at the dog park in Heaven playing ball with Slugger and Bailey, Stephens and Shelby's beloved pets who passed away not long ago.
Stephens touched many lives and will be missed by so many.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 12th from 4 pm to 8 pm at Newcomer, East Louisville Chapel in Middletown (235 Juneau Drive). The family will also receive friends from 9 am to 11 am on Saturday, March 13th with a funeral service to follow at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Stephens memory can be made to Tyson's Chance.
