Stephanie Lynn (Cart) Smith, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at the age of 69. Born on April 9, 1957, Stephanie lived a life marked by kindness, creativity, and devotion to her family.
Stephanie’s gentle spirit was evident in her unwavering willingness to help others, a quality that endeared her to those who knew her. She found joy in singing karaoke, where her vibrant personality shone, and delighted in applying her artistic gifts to design costumes and celebrate the holidays. Her skills extended beyond the arts; she was a talented hairdresser whose work was appreciated by many. Stephanie's love for animals reflected her compassionate nature, and she was a longstanding member of the Advent Christian Church.
Born to the late Robert Cart and Rosemary (McGuire) Gudgeon, Stephanie was also preceded in death by her brothers, David, Timothy, and Robert Cart.
Stephanie is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Mark Smith. Together, they built a family and a home filled with love. Her daughters—April Smith (Kenny Blanford); Michelle Miller (John); and Jamie Jones (Todd Lone)—carry forward her legacy. She was a proud grandmother to Marcus Smith, Destiny Smith-Geiger, Sean Smith-Geiger, Zoe Jones, Kaylee Lone, David Lone, Eddie Lone, and Carlie Geiger, and a great-grandmother to Delilah and Natalie. Stephanie also leaves behind her siblings, Rhonda Clark and Rick Cart, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
