Stanley Bruce Schlageter, 65, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family and close friends. He was born on December 1, 1953, in Lexington, Kentucky, to Janet (Fell) Schlageter and the late Stuart Schlageter. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Navy where he served his country honorably.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and earned several accommodation medals, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Campaign, and the Navy Unit Commendation. After dedicating 36 years to the military and government, he retired but never slowed down. Stanley became an ordained minister in 2012 and also became a captain and operated passenger vessels. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
Along with his mother, Stanley is survived by his children, Kara Thompson (Jason) and Kody Schlageter (Amber); sister, Ann Bridges; brother, Stuart Schlageter (Janet); and grandchildren, Jonah, Hayden, Noah, Lyla, and Tegan.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2019, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). He will be laid to rest privately at New Albany National Cemetery.
