Sophia Renee (Harris) Gonzales

Sophia Renee (Harris) Gonzales, 62, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025. Born on October 3, 1962, in Louisville, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Mildred (Chasteen) Harris. She spent her entire life caring for others, having had a long career as a CNA and former employee for Hospice of Southern Indiana. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aurelio Gonzales, cherished son, Joshua Gonzalez, and her siblings, including brothers Jerry and Kenny Harris and sisters Jackie Vandiver, Debbie, Regina, and Michelle Harris.

Sophia's legacy continues through her daughters, Olivia and Teresa Gonzales, who carry forward her strength and compassion. She was a proud grandmother to Hector, Victor, and Rafael Martinez, and to Joshua Gonzales, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride. She also leaves behind her brother, Joe Harris, sister, Sandra Bryant and son-in-law, Gabino Martinez.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Thursday after 10:00 a.m. A funeral service honoring Sophia’s life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest privately at Fairview Cemetery in New Albany.
