Sj Burkhead

SJ Burkhead went to be with the Lord on May 15, 2021, at the age of 88. One of the six children of Archie Wilson Burkhead and Ella May Milburn Burkhead, SJ was born and raised in Big Clifty, Kentucky. He married Barbara Jean Terry, and they moved to Louisville. They were married for 62 years until Barbara's passing in 2015 and were members of Southeast Christian Church. After SJ served in the Air Force, he started a home remodeling business. In his years of retirement, he continued to enjoy working with his hands, and he was well-known for his woodworking.

SJ is survived by his son, Keith Burkhead (Ayten); granddaughters, Ashley Godby (Max) and Ozge Durukan; great grandson, Judd Godby; sister, Artie Marie Hays; and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm on Friday, May 21, 2021 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky 40243 and from 9 to 10am on Saturday, May 22nd at Chapel in the Woods, 1407 Moser Rd, Louisville, KY 40299. A celebration fo SJ's life will be at 10am at Chapel in the Woods, with military honors to follow. Burial will be at 1pm on Saturday at Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens, 3817 Leitchfield Rd, Cecilia, KY 42724.
