Sinalee Payton Groves, age 104, died peacefully at home on Saturday, November 24, 2018. Born in Munfordville, Ky in 1914, Sinalee lived a life devoted to sharing her passion for music and her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. A graduate of Asbury College, she was an elementary school music teacher for 34 years and retired from JCPS in 1983. She also enjoyed teaching Sunday School for many years, but perhaps her greatest joy was in hosting countless children in her music room and introducing them to the scales on her grand piano. Hundreds of children in the greater Louisville area received their piano skills from Ms. Groves. And she adored each one. She had an unquenchable pioneering spirit and had a knack for urban farming long before it was a trend. Sinalee was a skilled beekeeper, avid gardener and farm owner. A bold and shrewd business woman, Sinalee even kept her home open to borders for over a decade. Through all these endeavors, she met folks from all walks of life and enjoyed learning from them. And she never hesitated to tell them, or anyone, about the Gospel of Jesus. Sinalee adored her family.
Sinalee is survived by her son, Samuel W. Groves, Jr.; her grandson, Samuel W. Groves, III; her granddaughter, Robyn G. McIntire (Michael); great-granddaughters, Kelly M. Russell (David) and Erin McIntire; and three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
Generous and spunky, Sinalee will be remembered as a bright, shining light in the various communities and churches she served. A gathering to celebrate her life will be held 12-1 pm on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive in Middletown. Private burial will be at Resthaven.
