Shirley Williams, 70, of Louisville, Kentucky, formerly of Jackson, Michigan, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2019. Shirley was a health care provider. She was a member of Saint Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Jackson, Michigan. Shirley was very active in various Civil Rights Organizations: NAACP, NAHRW, HRC, National Action Network, and many more contributory organizations,. She recieved the 1996 NCAAP Presidental Award, 1998 Sadie & EX Rhodes Barham Award, and the 1998 NAACP Peace Partnership of Jackson County Award. During her time with the NACCP, she held various positions and roles. Shirley was the Vice Chairman of the Jackson Human Relations Committe, and served on the Adivsory Committee of Jackson County. Shirley also was on the Fundraising Committee for the Center for Family Health. She enjoyed football gatherings with friends and family.
She was born on April 12, 1949 in Mobile, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her Mother, Birdias Marie Williams.
Shirley is survived by her loving, Daughters, Birdias Williams, and Patricia Williams, Grandchildren, Damar Williams, Malik Williams, Janiya Williams. Shirley also leaves behind to cherish her memory a host of extended family and friends.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, (10304 Dixie Hwy). Her Funeral Service will be at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, September 5, 2019 at the Newcomer Funeral Home Chapel. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Friday September 6, 2019 at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Jackson, Michigan.
