Shirley Jo Conlon

Shirley Jo Conlon, born on November 24, 1949, in New Albany, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and family values. Raised in the heart of New Albany, Shirley held her hometown dear, embodying the spirit and warmth of the community throughout her life.

A proud 1968 graduate of New Albany High School, Shirley built a respected career in the credit departments of both New Jersey Bank and Bank of America. Her professional endeavors were marked by a steadfast commitment to her work, yet her heart was anchored firmly in her family life.

On August 26, 1972, Shirley married Alfred "Al" Conlon, whom she cherished deeply. This union brought forth two wonderful sons, Christopher (Diana) Conlon and Matthew Conlon, and made Shirley a proud grandmother to Logan and Tyler Conlon. Shirley’s greatest joy was her family, with whom she shared countless cherished moments. To her, nothing was more important than spending time with those she loved.

In addition to her dedication to family, Shirley had a variety of interests that filled her life with joy. While she didn’t follow sports avidly, she enjoyed watching the New York Yankees, Indiana University Basketball, University of Kentucky Basketball, and University of Louisville Basketball. She also found pleasure in the creative outlets of cake making and crafting, sharing her talents with those close to her.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Alfred "Al" Conlon; her sons, Christopher (Diana) Conlon and Matthew Conlon; her grandchildren, Logan and Tyler Conlon; her niece, Heather (Joe) Blanton; her nephew, Troy Stewart; her brother-in-law, Victor Stewart; and several cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Virginia Gum; her sister, Linda Stewart; and her brother, James Gum.

A visitation in celebration of Shirley’s life will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN 47150.

Shirley Jo Conlon will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family and the indelible impact she made on those around her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her loved ones and the community that she cherished so deeply.
