Shirley Marie (Striegel) Harbison, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on February 11, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on January 21, 1939, she was a long-time member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church and lived a life rich with love, faith, and dedication to her family.
Shirley cultivated a passion for creating beautiful floral arrangements; her hands were often found getting dirty in the soil, nurturing plants as they grew. This hobby exemplified her innate ability to bring beauty and life to her surroundings, a reflection of her nurturing spirit.
Throughout her life, Shirley was proudest of her family, whom she dearly loved. She was married to her beloved husband, Robert "Bob" Harbison Jr., for over 66 years. Together, they raised three children: Christopher Harbison, Victoria (Rick) Spray, and Gregory (Karen) Harbison. Her legacy continues through her eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her memory. Shirley is also survived by her siblings, Marvin (Beverly) Striegel, Robert "Bobby" (Rena) Striegel, Tony (Janice) Striegel, Deborah (Steve) Page, Barbara Vance, and Christine Baumann; and sister-in-law, Elise Striegel.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Aloysius Striegel Jr. and Martha Andres Striegel; her siblings, Rose Mary Peay, Martin Striegel, Janette Hayden, and Tommy Striegel; and her daughter-in-law, Tish Harbison.
As we remember Shirley, we celebrate a life that was full, vibrant, and guided by unwavering love. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew her and in the gardens she tended with such care.
A Memorial Gathering will be from 10:00 am to 10:30 am on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, (5719 St. Mary's Road, Floyds Knobs). Her Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 am on Tuesday, at the church. Cremation was chosen following Shirley's wishes.
