Shirley's passions were as varied as they were profound; she was an avid reader who delved into the pages of countless stories, each book offering a new adventure and a new perspective. Her talents extended to the gentle art of crocheting, where she crafted beautiful pieces that embodied her warmth and creativity. The vibrancy of her garden mirrored her nurturing spirit, a testament to her love for nature’s beauty. Evenings found her captivated by true crime television, where she would immerse herself in tales of intrigue, showcasing her keen intellect and curious nature.
Above all, Shirley's proudest accomplishments were her children and grandchildren, whom she cherished deeply. In their eyes, she found her greatest purpose, and in their laughter, she discovered her most profound joy. Her legacy will undoubtedly live on through them, as they carry forward the kindness and feisty spirit she so passionately embodied.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lydia Carroll and her sister, Nancy Carroll.
Shirley leaves behind to cherish her memories, her daughters, Rebecca Curtsinger and Melinda Duke; grandchildren, Alexis Curtsinger, Lydia Curtsinger, Aaron Curtsinger, and Zackary Duke; great-daughter, Rosella Perkins; sister, Barbara Legg and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering will be held on November 25, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville, located at 10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY 40272. This gathering will serve as a celebration of her vibrant life, inviting all whose lives she touched to come together in remembrance and gratitude for the gift of her presence.
Shirley Ann Duke leaves behind not merely the echoes of laughter but also a legacy of love, reminding us all to illuminate our lives with kindness and unyielding spirit.
