Shirley Eileen Osmon Chappell, age 99, of Louisville, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2017. Shirley was born February 3, 1918 in Epsom, Indiana, the daughter of the late Evert and Floy Osmon. She married the love of her life, the late Robert Chappell, upon his return from service in World War II. A devoted wife, mother and friend, she will be remembered for her thoughtfulness and kindness. She was a gentle soul and will be missed by many. Shirley enjoyed cooking, sewing, playing the piano, reading and playing Bridge. She was a member of several clubs and a sixty year member of Harvey Browne Presbyterian Church, where she was active in the quilting ministry and Women's Circle. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Geri Nuttall and Marilyn Summers; and her brothers, Leroy, Harold and Ralph Osmon.
Shirley is survived by one sister, Leah Graham; children, John Chappell (Helen), Steve Chappell (Laura) and Carol Morris (Bill); grandchildren, Donna Patterson, Khristen Phillips (Marc), Rob Morris (Julie), Ellen Sewell (Tony), Ginny Freedman (Todd) and Ben Chappell (Nicki); 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, several nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be held 12-1pm Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Harvey Browne Presbyterian Church, 311 Browns Lane, Louisville, Kentucky, with a celebration of Shirley's life at 1pm. Burial will follow in Cave Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Harvey Browne Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or the Crusade for Children.
