Remembering…….. To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; Ecclesiastes 3: 1-2
A Time to Be Born…..Shirley Ann Barnett was born 1st child to (the late) Robert Smith and Celia Smith in Louisville KY on March 11, 1943. Shirley was raised by her Uncle & Aunt Harry and Ida Mae Massey of New Albany Indiana.
A Time to Get… At the age 14 Shirley married Herschel Barnett and to that union eight children were born.
A Time to Plant….. Shirley attended New Albany- Floyd County schools. She worked at The Holiday Inn for 30 years before retiring and started a new career as an in-home caregiver. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Jefferson Gardens in addition to being on their Mother Board, Finance Committee and led the Kitchen Committee for many years. She also continued to be a member of the William O Vance Senior Club until her illness prevented her from participating.
A Time to Love… Shirley loved to travel frequently anywhere across the country. She was an all around sweet, kind, nice, and gentle person that never met a stranger. She loved her family and church. She was an avid reader as proven by her collection of books.
A Time to lose…She was preceded in death by her Husband, Herschel Barnett, daughter, Linda Sue Barnett Anthony, sons, Donald E. Barnett and Herschel A. Barnett all of New Albany Indiana.
A Time to Die…..She departed this life for eternal rest on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
A Time to Remember as she leaves to cherish her memory:
A Son and four Daughters.. Anthony (Tony) Barnett, Cora (Johnnie) Berry, Helen Barnett, Tara Barnett Wells, Lisa Barnett, and foster son, John Otto
Sisters and Brothers…..Barbara (Tony) Catlett of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, Sheba Smith and Earl Smith both of Louisville Kentucky, Kenneth Smith, Frances Jackson , Theresa Brackens all of Clarksville Indiana, and Carolyn Collier of Dayton, Ohio. Additionally, leaves 22 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren along with a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
