Sherman “Skip” Earl Stewart, born September 12, 1957, peacefully passed away on October 19, 2026.
Skip will be remembered as a man of strong character, quick wit, and deep devotion to the people he loved. A graduate of Southern High School, he was mischievous in a way that made him unforgettable. He had a dry sense of humor and delighted in telling classic dad jokes, often leaving those around him laughing or shaking their heads with a smile. Skip did not hold his tongue, and with him, you always knew exactly what he was thinking. Beneath that straightforward nature was a giving heart. He was always ready to help others, and many will remember his kindness just as much as his humor.
Skip was a proud Army veteran who served in Germany, where he worked as a mechanic in the Motor Pool. He took pride in that service and in the work he did.
He found joy in many interests that reflected his curious mind and lively spirit. Skip loved classic cars and enjoyed traveling with Marilyn. He was a Civil War buff, collected pocket watches, and had an appreciation for many different cuisines. He also had a playful side that brought happiness to others, often sharing cat videos and finding simple ways to make people smile.
The thing Skip treasured most was his family. They were a source of great pride and joy in his life. He was also proud of the life he built, one rooted in love for himself and his family, and that love remains part of the legacy he leaves behind.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Tina Stewart, son, Jeremy Stewart; parents, Samuel and Mildred Stewart and his brother, Eddie Stewart.
Skip leaves behind to cherish his memories, his daughter, Stacy (Larry) Stewart-Crockett; grandchildren, Jesse Stewart, Nathan (Morgan) Stewart, Sean (Zoey) Crockett and Trey Cox; great-grandchildren, Brantley, Magnolia and Elouise; sisters, Sandy (Bill) Gaither and Bonnie (Larry) Tindle; companion, Marilyn Talcott and countless other family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a celebration of Skip's life on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville, 10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, Kentucky 40272.
