Shelby Floyd Humphrey, Jr., 81, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2019. He served in the United States Marine Corps and earned a black belt in judo karate. Shelby enjoyed building things with his hands and was a skilled carpenter and woodworker.
He was born on February 14, 1938, in New Albany to the late Shelby and Gretna (Motsinger) Humphrey. Shelby was also preceded in death by his siblings, Bob Humphrey, Shirley Leffert, and Doris Stutzman.
Shelby is survived by his wife of 53 years, Constance (Thomas) Humphrey; children, Mark Riley (Debbie), Kelly Hertweck (Paul), Todd Humphrey (fiancée, Riggsann), Meghan Humphrey, and Jade Pack (Kenneth); 8 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2019, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Friday after 9:00 a.m. His funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday in the chapel at the funeral home with burial and military honors to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
