Shelby Jean Grady

Shelby Jean Grady, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, love, and quiet grace. Born March 14, 1937, in Jellico, Tennessee, Shelby was the daughter of Andrew and Pearl Davis. She began her remarkable journey in a small town, where her gentle heart and naturally giving spirit found fertile ground to grow.

Shelby's early life was shaped by strong familial bonds, especially with her sisters Mary Carrol, Glenna, and Shirley Connelly, her only surviving sister. She cherished the memories of her late sisters Mary Carol and Glenna, holding dear the special place they always had in her heart. As life carried her forward, Shelby grew into a woman known as much for her humble humor and soft-spoken wisdom as for her infectious laughter and sassy sense of fun.

Her academic pursuits led her to Cumberland College, where her determination and keen mind blossomed. She earned her bachelor’s degree and embarked on a devoted career as a Medical Technologist. Through her dedication, she helped comfort many patients throughout her years of service.

It was during these years that Shelby met her dearest Lowell A Grady, Jr—‘Sugy,’ as he was affectionately known—a love that would become her greatest joy and the foundation upon which she built her family and her life’s story. Together, they raised their son Chris, whom Shelby adored unconditionally. The pride she took in Chris was outshined only by the joy she found in her grandchildren—Trevor, Evan, Bryce, Dakota, and Whitney—and great-grandchildren Willow, Jaxson, and Lake. Each one brought new light into her life, and she reveled in their company, celebrating every milestone.

Shelby’s love for her family radiated outward to the community that surrounded her. She treasured times spent playing golf and, perhaps most enthusiastically, cheering on her Louisville Cardinals basketball team. Anyone who met Shelby would be quick to say she was the sweetest thing they ever knew—unfailingly kind, deeply caring, and endlessly giving. Yet, beneath her gentleness, there was always a spark of humor and sassiness that warmed every room she entered.

Her giving nature extended beyond her immediate circle. Shelby was proud to have been a volunteer in the early days of the Christian Academy, dedicating her time and talents to help shape young lives. Her faith was a cornerstone, making her a devoted member of South East Christian Church, where she offered guidance and care through marriage counseling. These acts of service and faith built bridges and mended hearts, reflecting the compassion and wisdom she carried so gracefully.

Shelby’s legacy is not simply in the accomplishments she achieved but in the relationships she cultivated and the memories she created for those who knew her. Her son Chris and his wife Dana (the daughter Shelby never had), her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her cherished sister Shirley continue the story she began all those years ago in Jellico. The memories of family members gone before—her beloved ‘Sugy’, father Andrew, mother Pearl, and sisters Mary Carol and Glenna—now embrace her once again.

To honor Shelby’s beautiful life and the many lives she touched, family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville, 235 Juneau Dr, Louisville, KY 40243, on August 12, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at the same location beginning at 1:00 PM. The family will then lay Shelby to rest next to her husband at Louisville Memorial Gardens East, 11601 Ballardsville Road, Louisville, KY 40241, with a graveside service at 2:00 PM.

Shelby Jean Grady’s legacy remains a tapestry woven with kindness, wit, and boundless love—the sweetest thing, the favorite of everyone, whose touch upon this world will long be remembered.
