Sharlette DeWitt Hemmer, a beloved matriarch and cherished member of her family, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on June 2, 1953, in Louisville, she brought joy and warmth to all who knew her.
Sharlette attended Fern Creek High School, where she laying the foundation for the remarkable life she would go on to lead. a stay-at-home mom, she dedicated herself to raising her daughters, Tanya (Michael) Blair and Jeanacarol Elouise (Darrow) Orlandi. This commitment was a source of pride for her, as she considered her daughters to be her greatest accomplishment and treasured her role as the family matriarch.
With a loving heart and a spirited personality, Sharlette was known for her generosity, outgoing nature, and spicy personality. She could never be mistaken for a stranger, always extending kindness and support to those around her. Her laughter filled the room and left a lasting impression on everyone blessed to know her. It was said that Sharlette would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need—a testament to her heart of gold and unwavering loyalty to her loved ones. She had a passionate love for God and attended church on a regular basis, her favorite prayer was Psalm 23.
Family reunions were among her most joyous times, where she delighted in being "Ganny" to her grandchildren: Katelyn Richardson (Darin), Michael Kaufman (Cressant), Alivia Bonn (Christian), Mark DeLeon, Manny DeLeon, Grace DeLeon, Kailey Wells, and Liam Blair. Her legacy continues with her great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Stephens, Raygan Stephens, Owen Kaufman, Emerson Kaufman, Hayden Richardson, and Sophia Richardson.
Alongside her daughters and grandchildren, Sharlette is survived by her brother, Mark DeWitt (Stephanie), and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and friends, all of whom will miss her deeply.
Sharlette is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, John "Rusty" Hemmer, and her parents, Robert and Elouise (Williams) DeWitt. She is also reunited in spirit with her siblings, Randy DeWitt, Carolyn Flener, Bob DeWitt, and Donald McGaha.
Sharlette's passions extended to quilting, solving puzzles, and enjoying Facebook games, particularly Candy Crush. A lover of life’s simple pleasures, she found joy in smoking cigarettes and indulging in her favorite diet Mountain Dew.
Her laughter, warmth, and compassion will be sorely missed but will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to share in her life. Sharlette DeWitt Hemmer leaves behind a legacy of love, unity, and cherished memories that will endure through generations.
Per Sharlette's wishes cremation was chosen and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
