Shane Timothy Dwen Merse, age 26, passed away June 26th, 2021. Shane was born to Tim and Dwen Merse in Louisville, KY, on December 20th, 1994. Shane spent most of his life in Louisville, but spent a few years in Devon, England while young; as well as significant time over his final few years seeing the U.S. from the inside of a semi-truck, and the back streets of Kentucky from one of his several motorcycles; experiences he treasured dearly.
If you were privileged to have ever had the experience of meeting Shane, he was polarizing. He was at once loud and aggressive; he loved arguing and joking; and he domineered every space he entered with a palpable energy and a significant volume. You could sincerely hear him coming from a mile away.
But beyond the loud voice, bright personality, and general eccentricity; was a person who would listen to you more deeply than anyone else when you spoke with them; a person who would be genuinely interested in anything that anybody else found interesting; and a person who legitimately seemed to just want to help those around them. Beneath a sometimes gruff exterior; Shane was a ridiculously caring individual who loved spinning clay on his pottery wheel, making beautiful melodies on his guitar, and generally livening up whatever group he found himself a part of. Though it was undeniable to those around him, Shane's humble nature would lead him to consistently downplay his strength of presence, his ability to help those in need, and his overall loving, caring nature.
Shane's passing has left a quietness in the Merse family family that will always be there, but the life that he managed to pack into his short 26 years has privileged the family with memories that could last several lifetimes.
Shane is preceded in death by his mother Dwen. He is survived by his father Tim, as well as his siblings, Caitlin and Robin.
A memorial service for Shane will be held privately at a later date.
