On March 27, 2017, after 83 years of caring and serving others, and a lifelong Louisvillian, Sarah Yankey Allen Schott is now at rest in the care of her Heavenly Father. Born to Robert & Maude Yankey on the Jones Farm in Anchorage, Kentucky on January 16, 1934 along with her siblings, Hazel Wickett, Ernest Yankey (d.) and Wanda Huff (d.)
Sarah married Dr. Stiles Allen (d.) in 1956, and their daughter, Chris Allen Jackson was born. She spent many fun, sunny vacations exploring California with Chris & Bill and their family.
Married to Jimmy Schott from 1977 until his death in 2001, she loved him and his five children: Cheryl Dunn (Tim), Bill Schott (Fran), Susie Schott-Martin (Wes) and Andy Schott (d.) Sarah loved Christmas. She had an enormous toy soldier collection including a Christmas tree with over 400 toy soldiers (which remained up year-round) She was revered for her beautiful hand-sewn Christmas stockings and ornaments for the family to treasure.
After completing her nurses training at Highland Baptist Hospital, she served as an night shift RN there for over 20 years. She was known for her compassion, professionalism and strong work ethic. After retiring, she spent many years in a woodworking crafts business with Hazel and Bill Wickett.
Among her many loves was New York Yankee baseball and UK and Louisville basketball teams. She enjoyed trips with friends to New York City and Scandinavia, plus many Florida vacations with Jimmy.
Sarah has been a member of First Baptist Church of Middletown for over 80 years. The congregation celebrates Sarah for her "nearly world famous" chocolate chip cookies and homemade bourbon balls that are often sold at fundraising events.
It is fitting that Sarah is going back one more time to her favorite place, First Baptist Church of Middletown, 11721 Main Street, Middletown, Kentucky, on Friday March 31, 2017.
