Sarah F. Key Persun, 77, passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. She was born in Knoxville, TN, to the late Lillian Ramsey and Martin Key, Sr. Sarah worked for the New Albany and Floyd County Schools as a bus monitor. She was a UK and New York Giant fan, but her love was always softball. Sarah was a former Louisville Majorette, a semi-pro softball team, then played and coached various teams until her later years. Her passion became coaching the Special Olympics for over 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Denny, Martin, Jr. and James Key, Sr; sister, Norma McGinty and her best friend in life, Joan Murphy.
Sarah leaves to cherish her memories, former husband, Jerry Persun, Sr; children, Tammy (Dennis) Slaughter, Jerry (Patty) Persun, Jr and Carl (Lisa) Persun; grandchildren, Travis Madden, Kevin Persun, Holly Blanford, Morgan Madden and Brittany Madden; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia Greenwood; sister-in-law and special caregiver, Vera Key and numerous nieces, nephews and loving friends.
Visitation will be Friday, September 3, 2021, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Southwest Louisville Chapel, 10304 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY, from 2pm-8pm. A celebration of Sarah's life will be Saturday, September 4, 2021, beginning at 11am at the funeral home.
Sarah will be laid to rest at Bethany Cemetery, 10917 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY.
