Sara "Kathy" Key

Sara "Kathy" Key, aged 71, of Louisville, Kentucky, gently departed from this world on Friday, April 25, 2025. Born on March 17, 1954, in the very heart of Louisville, she graced the lives of many as the cherished daughter of the late Sam Green and Rosemary (Ward) Akin. Kathy’s legacy is illuminated by the love she shared with her family, including her late husband of 51 years, James C. Key, Sr., her son James C. Key, Jr., and her sister Gwendolyn Johnson, all of whom preceded her in death.

Kathy leaves behind a vibrant tapestry of family and friends who will forever hold her memory close. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Samantha (Daniel) Wombles; her adored grandchildren: Tabatha (Brandon) Burk, Hunter Wombles, Chris (Rachel) Wombles, Danielle Wombles, Jordan Wombles, Cameron Wombles, and Kirsten Wombles; along with her great-grandson Mason Burk and three great-grandchildren. Also part of her cherished circle are her sister Wilma (Louis) Witt, her beloved furbabies Princess and Tootles, her bonus daughter Sarai Lopez, her bonus son Miguel Frias, and her bonus grandchildren Natalee, Jasmine, Michelle, and Leah, alongside a host of nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

Kathy exemplified the spirit of a matriarch; her remarkable ability to express herself with warmth and a smile made her a guiding light to those who knew her. A devoted caregiver at heart, her passion for nurturing children spanned over two decades, leading her to earn the endearing titles of “Aunt Kathy” and “KK” to many. The essence of her joy resided in the company of her family, especially her grandchildren, and the moments spent together will be treasured eternally. Outside the warmth of her family gatherings, Kathy found delight in the lively atmosphere of local Bingo halls, where she enjoyed countless hours of fun.
