Sandra Lee Watkins

Sandra Lee Watkins, lovingly known as Sandy, passed away on August 31, 2026, at the age of 84.

Born on November 17, 1941, Sandy graduated from Valley High School in 1959. She was a devoted house wife who poured her care, energy, and love into her home and family. Sandy will be remembered as an outgoing woman and a jokester who loved to laugh. Her warmth and humor touched those around her and made time spent with her memorable.

She found joy in life’s simple and meaningful pleasures. Sandy loved reading, seek and finds, cooking, embroidery, and feeding the squirrels. She especially enjoyed watching the birds in her yard, with hummingbirds holding a special place in her heart. She also treasured the time she spent with her neighbors, Charlene, whom she called sister; Mary, whom she called daughter; Joanne; and Shaconya, whom she affectionately called her doctor. These cherished friendships brought companionship, laughter, and comfort to her life.

Among Sandy’s proudest blessings were the 62 years she shared in marriage with her late husband, Charles Watkins, Sr., and her great-granddaughter, Magnolia “Maggie” Morriston, who held a very special place in her heart.

She is survived by her children, Debbie (Dale) Dillingham, Charles (Nathen) Watkins, Jr., Jimmy (Darrin) Watkins, and daughter-in-law Diana Watkins. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Brittany (Jeffrey) Morriston, Dustin Dillingham, and Brandon (Morgan) Watkins along with Tori (Matt) Watkins. Her memory will continue to live on in the life of her treasured great-granddaughter, Magnolia Morriston. Sandy is also survived by her brother, Jim (Judy) Dial as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends to cherish her memory forever. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Watkins, Sr.; her mother, Wilda Dial; her father, Warden Dial; and her sister, Ellen Bucklin.

Visitation will be held on September 14, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville, 10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY 40272. A Funeral Service will take place there on September 15, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a Graveside Service at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, 2501 North Dixie Boulevard, Fort Knox, KY 40121.

Sandy will be remembered for her laughter, her loving heart, and the joy she found in family, friendship, and the everyday beauty around her. Her presence will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
