Sandra “Sandy” Johnson, born on June 3, 1959, in Russell Springs, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky. With her passing, those closest to her mourn a deeply cherished mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend—a woman renowned for her fierce love, wit, and authenticity.
From her earliest days Sandy embraced the warmth of family and the joy of connection. Her warmth and honesty would be felt by many more. Her unwavering devotion to her loved ones was ever-present, and she never hesitated to both uplift and speak her mind with a refreshing candor that endeared her to all who knew her.
Sandy spent many years as a bartender at the Galt House, a role that suited her perfectly. There, she poured much more than drinks—she poured kindness and hospitality into the hearts of regulars and newcomers alike. Her laughter echoed through the halls, and her spirited stories left their mark on countless patrons and colleagues. She brought light to everyone she met, forming lasting friendships along the way.
Family was always at the heart of Sandy’s world. She adored time spent with her family and friends, especially as a devoted and loving mother, nanny, sister and aunt. She leaves behind her beloved son, Brian Johnson and his wife Brittany, and her treasured grandchildren: David Johnson (Laura), Maliki Hawkins, and Kaylee Johnson. Their lives are forever shaped by the wisdom, care, and humor she shared with them.
Sandy’s love for her sisters was a constant in her life. She is survived by Ernestine Holthouser (Ron), Sharon Jensen (Keith), Dollie O’Connell, and Robin Radcliff (Scotty), as well as her brother-in-law, Mark Holthouser and her long term boyfriend, Harry Talbert. Many nieces and nephews recall her as the aunt who was always ready with a hug, a story, or a dose of tough love if needed.
She is preceded in death by her dearly missed mother, Martha Johnson; her son, Jeremy Johnson; her sister, Loretta Johnson; and her niece, Stacy O’Connell. Their memories were never far from Sandy’s heart, and she spoke of them often with deep affection.
Sandy’s passions filled her life with joy and color. She delighted in bingo games and dancing during her younger days, her energy lighting up the room. In quieter moments, she could be found tending her garden—a labor of love that brought her peace. Simple pleasures, like watching fish videos, made her smile. Her home was alive with laughter, warmth, and the embrace of family.
To those who knew her, Sandy Johnson was the kind of person who fiercely loved with her whole heart. Her words were honest, sometimes blunt, but always rooted in care. She listened, she guided, and she loved without reservation. Her legacy lives on in the lives of those she touched, the stories she shared, and the love that will never wane.
Friends and loved ones are invited to honor Sandy’s life during a visitation on Thursday, July 9th, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville (10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY 40272). A Celebration of Life service will follow at 7:00 p.m. at the same location.
As we gather to remember Sandy, we hold close the laughter, love, and strength she gave so freely. She leaves behind a legacy of fierce devotion—a testament to a life fully, and beautifully, lived.
