Sandra N. Hortenberry, 77, of Pekin, Indiana, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, February 9, 2022. Sandy retired from the Washington County Soil and Water Conservation District. She was involved with the Girl Scouts and was a camp director at Camp Ella J. Logan GSA. Sandy was proud to be a two-time colon cancer survivor. Her greatest joy was making her "miracle" great-granddaughter, Serenity, smile and laugh.
She was born on June 2, 1944, in Fort Pierce, Florida, to the late William and Alvalee (Jenkins) Grice. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Hortenberry, Sr., and her infant brother.
Sandy is survived by her daughter, Elisabeth Hortenberry; daughter, Victoria Hortenberry; son, James (Stacey) Hortenberry, Jr.; grandchildren, Anastasia Hurst and TJ Whitehead; great-granddaughter, Serenity Hurst; sisters, LaVonna Rightmyer and Carol Creel; as well as many other family and friends.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Visitation will continue on Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Her Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with burial at Martinsburg Cemetery in Pekin, Indiana.
