Sandra Osburn Cherry

Sandra was born November 7, 1942 to Robert Dudley Osburn, Jr. of Frederick, Maryland and Doris Douglass Jones of Brunswick, (formerly Petersville), Maryland. She graduated from Frederick High School in 1959, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and

President of the Thespian Society. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church where she sang in the junior/senior high choir.

Sandra received her BA from the University of Maryland, College Park campus, with a major in Theatre and a minor in Math and English. She was also a proud member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, the Panhellenic Council, Student Court, the Diadem Honor Society, and the Canterbury

Club. The Canterbury Club founded the Endor Inn Coffee house. Popular during that time period was the Rejoice Folk Mass, which Sandra directed and performed throughout Washington D.C.

After college, Sandra worked as an Intelligence Analyst for the federal government and participated in the community by singing with the American Light Opera Company at Georgetown University, Washington Cathedral Choral Society, and Evensong Choir at St. Paul's, K Street. After marrying Charles S. Cherry and spending a year at General Seminary in New York City, they moved to Louisville, Kentucky. Sandra joined Sargent Shriver's Teacher Corps which sent her to University of Kentucky for her Master's Degree, Rank One, and gained certification as a

Principal, Supervisor, and K-12 Teacher. Sandra was a public school teacher in JCPS for 34 years, a member of MENSA, and a member of the education sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma, where she held many offices including state music chairman.

In 1970, Sandra's daughter, Cassandra Cherry (now Brosvik) was born and her son Michael Charles Cherry (deceased) was born two years later in 1972. Sandra sang in the choir at Calvary Episcopal Church and served on the Vestry. She sang with the Louisville Bach Society founded by Melvin and Margaret Dickinson. She also was assistant director and sang with The Falls of the Ohio chapter of Sweet Adelines.

In Louisville, Sandra was on the Board of Directors at Bellarmine University's Veritas Program of Continuing Education. She taught over forty classes on various subjects that included comparative religion, the Wives of Henry VIll, and lectures from The Chautauqua Institution in

New York. She was also a member of the Jewish Community Center where she received awards for teaching classes to the AgeWell Group.

In 2012, Sandra gave to Calvary the 14 Stations of the Cross in honor of family members. “A Life Well Lived."

Visitation will be held Saturday August 1,2026 from 9:30 am -10:00 am at Calvary Episcopal Church, 821 S. 4th St, Louisville, KY 40203. A service celebrating Sandra's life will immediately follow the visitation at 10:00 am. After the service the family welcomes guests to stay and share a meal with them at the church. Her burial will follow the reception, beginning at 1:00 pm at Cave Hill Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, the family strongly suggests that expressions of sympathy be directed to the Sacred Arts Music Program through Calvary Episcopal Church or the Church's Food Pantry.
