Listen to Obituary

Samuel Howard Harris, born on March 7, 1941, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026, leaving behind a legacy defined by strength, honesty, integrity, and profound love for his family. Sam’s story is one marked by humble beginnings and a steadfast commitment to providing a better life for those he cherished most.

Growing up as the youngest of 11 children, Sam was no stranger to hard work and resilience. Those humble beginnings shaped his values, and as Sam always said: he wouldn't have changed anything. He was a hard worker, not for personal gain, but for the happiness and well-being of his children and grandchildren. Indeed, seeing his family happy was what Sam loved most, and it became his proudest accomplishment.

Sam devoted three decades to his career as a truck driver at Dixie Warehouse and Cartage, retiring after 30 years of diligent service. His work ethic and commitment were matched only by his directness; those who knew Sam will remember him as truthful and never sugarcoating the truth, choosing instead to speak honestly, even when his words were difficult to hear. He was always willing to share a story that kept listeners on their toes, wondering what punch line or piece of wisdom would come next. His quick wit brought smiles, while his generosity and genuinely caring nature left a lasting impression on all who crossed his path.

Beyond his professional life, Sam found joy in simple pleasures. He loved working on cars and riding horses, often spending time outdoors tending to his garden or cutting the grass. He had a lifelong love of Westerns, admiring the cowboys' quiet sense of honor, responsibility, and doing the right thing even when it wasn't easy.

Sam’s life was not only about hard work but about sharing love, laughter, and meaningful moments with those close to him. At his core, he was a man with a tender heart—a person whose generosity, kindness, and direct nature will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Myrtle Harris; son, Bubba Harris and his 10 siblings.

Sam leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife of 50 years, Debra Harris; daughters, Robin, Rhonda, and Radeana Harris; sons, Roger and Scott Harris; grandchildren, Daryl, Brandon, Cherish, and Alexandra; and countless other nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
