Sammie Luther Bright, Jr., fondly known as Sam Bright, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on April 30, 1955, in Hardeeville, South Carolina, Sam’s journey through life was marked by generosity, humor, and an affectionate spirit that touched all who knew him.

A devoted family man and cherished friend, Sam Bright was known for his giving nature, his witty sense of humor, and his loving, laid-back demeanor. He was a trusted confidant who skillfully kept the secrets of those around him. His interests were simple yet heartfelt; he found joy in bowling and was an aficionado of professional television, passions that brought him comfort and entertainment in his lifetime.

Sam’s educational path began in elementary school at Bradenton in St. Petersburg, Florida, before moving to Shawnee Middle School and Shawnee High School in Louisville, Kentucky. His career was chiefly dedicated to Carlesimo Products Inc., from where he retired after years of commitment and hard work.

Sam was preceded in death by his father, Sammie Bright, Sr. He is lovingly survived by his mother, Mildred Bright, and his three cherished daughters: Tanika Jones, Kristen Bright-Burrell, and Charice Bright. He was a proud grandfather to Keenen Wynans, Bailey Bright, Blake Jones, and Peace Burrell. His family circle also includes his siblings Stella Jane Bright, Dorine Bright Johnson, Joseph Ricky Bright, Benjamin Bright, Yolanda (Lala) Bright, Calandra T. Bright, Veronica Bailey-Smith, Garry Bailey, Tarry Bailey, Dennis (Kitten) Raymond, Thomas and Sandra Bright, uncles and aunts Ravenel and Mattie Bright, Ora Bright, and great-aunt Janie Allen. Additionally, Sam’s extended family includes the Collins/Bright brothers and sisters from Detroit, Michigan, as well as numerous cousins from Hardeeville, South Carolina.

The community and family also extend their heartfelt appreciation to Norton Hospitals, especially Donavan, Torrie, Johnette, and the entire caregiving team, including Michelle, Barbara, Calandra, Frances, Ruthie, and William for their compassionate care and support. Special thanks are given to Thomas Collins, Bernard Ward, Terry Walker, Keary Walker, Teresa Walker, Chef Greg, Terry Walker, Jr, Sierra Bright, Randy and Christine Allen, Skylar and Tristian Hooten, Calandra Bright, and Veronica Bailey for their love and fellowship during Sam’s final year. A special thanks to Laura, and Shantell Collins, David and Kay Burnett for a life saving meal and visit. Also, Denise, Isaac, and Simone Bright.

A visitation will be held on April 21, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville, located at 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243. Following this, the funeral service will commence at 12:00 PM and conclude by 1:00 PM. Sam will be laid to rest with dignity at Green Meadows Cemetery, 3800 Shanks Lane, Louisville, KY 40216, with burial beginning at 2:00 PM and concluding at 3:00 PM.

Sammie Luther Bright, Jr.’s life was a testament to the power of kindness, the strength of family, and the joy found in simple pleasures. He will be deeply missed yet fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him. His legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty remains an enduring blessing to his family and friends.
