Ruth Naomi Roberts entered into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on January 1, 2019. She was 93 years old and just 5 days shy of her 94th birthday!
Ruth was born on January 6, 1925, to Gertrude Ann and William Thomas Waford, the 9th of 10 children (one of whom had died in infancy) in Louisville. She grew up during the Great Depression, got married to USAAF Aviation Cadet Shirley L. Roberts in April 1943 (and remained married to him for 68 years until his death in 2011), and worked as a telephone operator at the old Highland Exchange (she often told the story of how the entire switchboard lit up when Franklin Delano Roosevelt died). After the war, she became a full-time homemaker, a role she cherished for the rest of her life. She was a long-time member of Garrs Lane (Formerly Parkview) United Methodist Church and sang in the choir there for many years.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband and her daughter, Marion R. Bell of Goshen, along with her parents and all nine of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sons, Dennis (Janet) and Timothy (Laura) Roberts of Louisville, son-in-law, Morton Bell, four grandchildren, Matthew and Joshua Bell, and Starr and Eva Roberts, great grandchildren, Lilly Rose, Gavin, Finley, Declan, and Matthew, Jr, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 8th from 2:00 to 8:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Chapel. The service will be on Wednesday the 9th at 10:30 am with burial at Cave Hill Cemetery following the service.
