Ruth Ann Popp, a beloved homemaker, mother, and matriarch, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, in Sellersburg, surrounded by her devoted family. Born on March 13, 1934, in New Albany, Ruth’s life was a testament to love, faith, and selfless dedication to those around her.

After graduating from New Albany High School, Ruth embraced her role as the heart of her family with grace and unwavering strength. She was a loyal wife, a devoted mother, a loving grandmother, and a compassionate sister and friend. Open-hearted and kind, Ruth always placed others before herself, ensuring her family and community had everything they needed to thrive.

Her greatest pride came from watching her family grow and succeed—a joy that defined her life. Ruth took immense pleasure in spending time in her garden, tending to her flowers with care, transforming her yard into a welcoming home filled with beauty and warmth. A woman of deep faith, she also enjoyed bird watching and was a caretaker at heart, attributes that endeared her to everyone who knew her.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Edwin Popp, her parents Matilda and Herman Schad, and her siblings Herman Schad Jr., James Schad, Lucille Dowdle, Raymond Schad, Mary Garcia, Earl Schad, Mildred Wood, and Kenny Schad.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Kenneth W. (Teri) Popp, Kevin Paul Popp, Cynthia Bowling, and Christopher E. Popp (Linda). Her family legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Justin A. (Megan) Popp, Brandon M. Popp, Joseph P. (Brittany) Popp, Dominic Geary, Zachary (Tiffany Lynch) Woodard, Caleb (Liz) Popp, and Colton Popp. Ruth’s great-grandchildren—Eric S. (Sarah) Popp, Nicholas (Genesis Morris) Popp, Shelby Popp, Grayson Popp, Peyton Popp, Lainey Popp, Wyatt Woodard, and Tilly Mae Woodard—along with her great-great-grandchildren Oaklyn Ellis and Luka Popp, continue to honor her incredible spirit. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Carol Schad, and many loving nieces, nephews, friends and family.

Ruth Ann Popp lived a life of quiet strength and infinite generosity. Her love and devotion shaped her family’s foundation, and her legacy will forever bloom in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
