Ruth Mary (Hagan) King, 91, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 12, 2025. Born on October 1, 1934, she was the daughter of Herbert, Sr. and Lucille (Hartlage) Hagan. Ruth's life was one of dedication, love, and devotion to her family and her faith.
Ruth was a force of nature. She led a joyful and full life until her final days. Over the course of her 91 years she touched and made an impact on countless individuals. She had a lively and magnetic personality and never met a stranger. She exuded love, kindness, and curiosity toward everyone she encountered, making lasting impressions.
Ruth was an exceptionally devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, daughter in law, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend, beloved by every member of her family and wide circle of friends. She maintained close bonds with each of her children and spouses, her grandchildren and great grandchildren, whether they lived next door or hours away. She knew how to play and have fun - teaching and playing games and songs. She was a willing participant in and very often the instigator of all manner of silly antics.
Ruth had an incredible work ethic - her entire life - cleaning house for neighbors for 25 cents as a teenager and mowing her grass and keeping her floors sparkling at 90. She gave of herself - spending years caring for her father, and serving as a personal caregiver to many reaching the end of their lives. She was generous with her time and energy for those in need, whether relatives, neighbors, or disaster victims many miles away.
Ruth engaged in life and savored all it had to offer, travelling and exploring - with Art, and later with friends - she was proud to have visited all 50 states. She loved the beach, cruises, tours, musical performances and theater. Her favorite experience of all was a performance by her grandkids.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur "Art" King, an infant son, Joseph, and her brothers, Lamont Hagan and Herbert Hagan, Jr. She is survived by her sons, Ronald King (Sharon), Edward King (Sheryl), and Kenneth King (Kathy), along with her daughter, Laura Gettelfinger (Steve). Ruth was a proud grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her siblings, Rose Ann Williams, William Hagan, and Bernadette Hagan, as well as her sister-in-law, Rita Hagan, and a host of nieces and nephews who will remember her fondly.
Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany).
