Ruth Kaye Compton

Ruth Kaye Compton, age 73 of Fisherville, Kentucky passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at her home.  Ruth was born in Louisville, Kentucky on April 1, 1951 to the late Ellis "Bub" Lee and Iva Lee Moore.  She retired from JCPS (Jefferson County Public Schools) where she worked from 1982 to 2008, first as a dietician in the cafeteria, aka a “lunch lady” and then as a book keeper at Rutherford Elementary, a role from which she retired and made many lifelong friendships.

Ruth loved a good crossword or sudoku puzzle, liked to read, enjoyed lunch visits with friends and family, and couldn’t go without her Hallmark movies. She served as a girl scout troop leader for several years, while her daughters were in the Brownies and Girl Scouts. Working in the same school district as her grandchildren or other family members and friends’ children, often meant she was taking one or more kids home with her after work for some much loved after school care, including helping with homework, some pizza rolls or Ramen that apparently no one made as good as maw (as she was called by one) or maw-maw (called) by several, and G (as some referred to her). Ruth was a member of Jeffersontown Christian Church. 

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers, Ronald Moore (Linda) and Robert Moore (Michele); sisters, Judy Moore and Nancy Flood; her husband, Donnie Compton; and daughter, Bobbie Jo Sneed. 

Left to cherish her memory is Ruth's brother, Kenneth Moore (Sharon); daughters, Susan Driver (Allen), Bekki  Sneed and Raine Compton; son, Chris Compton; grandchildren, Josh Driver (Kristie), Bradley Carrico (Mariah), William Yates, Corey Driver (Brooke), Nikki Stout, Hailey Corrales, Dallas Mitchell (Jonathan), Anthony Corrales, Miranda Poindexter, and Maddie Wilson; great-grandchildren, Addie, Maize, Rhett and Gabriel; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; and a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be from 3pm to 6pm on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky 40243.  A celebration of Ruth's life will follow at 6pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Ruth’s honor.
