Mr. Roy Winternheimer, age 94, of Madison, Indiana, entered this life on January 12, 1931 in Chandler, Indiana. He was the son of Martin and Florence (Oberbeck) Winternheimer. Roy graduated from Reitz High School in Evansville, Indiana in 1948. Roy was drafted into the United States Army at age 20 and served his time in Alaska as a heavy equipment operator. Once out of the Army, Roy worked for Indiana Bell (AT&T) for 37 years as a construction manager. Roy married Shirley (Deken) on October 17, 1953 and had the joy of raising their two children, Mark and Cheryl (Roberts). Their family moved to Floyds Knobs, Indiana in 1966 where he lived for 40 years. They moved to Madison, Indiana in 2017 to be near their daughter. Roy loved being in the outdoors, driving his tractor and working, but without a doubt, his greatest love was his family.
Roy will be missed by his son, Mark Winternheimer and his wife, Angela, of Sellersburg, Indiana; his daughter, Cheryl Roberts and her husband, David, of Madison, Indiana; his grandchildren, Jesse (Danielle) Roberts, Tregan (Allison) Roberts, Hana (Luke) Ebeling, Julian (Helen) Winternheimer, Grace Winternheimer, Sarah Winternheimer, and Henry Winternheimer; his great-grandchildren, Silas, Dawson, Hadley, Wyatt, Emmett, and Atlas; his sister, Nancy (Irvin) Heim; and several nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Shirley Deken Winternheimer of Madison, Indiana (formerly Evansville, IN); his siblings, Carol Winternheimer, Lola Gerhardt, Wayne Winternheimer, and Burt Hatfield.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:30 am on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church (5719 St. Mary's Road). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 am on Thursday, at the church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
