With heavy hearts and grateful spirits, we gather to remember and celebrate the remarkable life of Roy Archester Bellflower, Sr., whose journey began on January 19, 1939, and came to a peaceful close on July 12, 2026. In his 87 years, Roy graced those who knew him with steadfast devotion, gentle humor, and an unwavering commitment to his family, his faith, and his community.
Roy’s story began as he was nurtured by his beloved parents, Flonita Erpeling and Archester Bellflower, both preceding him in death and forging for him a legacy of kindness and perseverance. Roy earned his diploma from Bainbridge High School in 1957, laying the foundation for a lifetime characterized by dedication to work, service, and the pursuit of knowledge.
Answering the call of duty, Roy proudly served his country and ultimately retired with honor from the United States Air Force. His patriotism did not wane in retirement; rather, it became a defining aspect of his life, one reflected in his involvement with the VFW Auxiliary 5421 as well as apart of American Legions In West Point, Kentucky. Traveling with the Auxiliary, Roy found camaraderie and shared in the sacred responsibility of honoring veterans like himself.
Upon completing his military service, Roy embarked on a meaningful career as a clerk for the U.S. Postal Services. Through his diligence and work ethic, he embodied the reliability and quiet strength for which he was known. Within the postal community, Roy forged lasting friendships, many of which flourished through spirited bowling tournaments stretching across numerous states as part of the post office league. It was on those lanes that Roy’s skill shone brightly—an avid bowler with an impressive average exceeding 200, and a beloved teammate, always quick with an encouraging word or well-timed jest.
A man of many interests, Roy found joy in the simple and enduring pleasures of life. Whether perfecting his golf swing, engaging in friendly competitions, or enjoying thoughtful hours watching history channels and game shows, his days were filled with reflection and humor. These pastimes were often shared with those dearest to him, for Roy was, above all, a family man. He cherished traveling alongside his wife and grandchildren, each journey becoming a cherished memory woven into the rich fabric of his life.
Faith was the gentle current guiding Roy’s days; since 1979, he was a dedicated member of Incarnation Catholic Church. This spiritual home was a place of solace and gratitude, where he nurtured his relationship with God and fostered bonds with fellow parishioners.
Roy’s influence extends beyond his own accomplishments and into the hearts of his beloved family, who survive him and hold dear the lessons and laughter he imparted. He is survived by his devoted wife, Maryann Bellflower, who was both his partner and his unwavering support. Together, they built a family whose love endures as Roy’s most treasured legacy. Their children—Mary Beth Renfrow, Theresa Bellflower, Roy Bellflower, Jr., Zina Pettitt, and Kenneth Bellflower (Michele)—and their families carry his memory forward, guided by the integrity and warmth he modeled.
His spirit lives on in the hearts of his grandchildren: Anthony (Jessica), Donald Joseph (Sierra), Kelly (Melissa), Alexander(Faith), Andrew, Elizabeth, Michael (Stephanie), Nicole, Stephanie, Tiffany, Lisa, and Robert. The next generation—Eden, Slene, Carter, Isla, Oliver, Elane, Lilly, Chloe, Heather, Jordan, Colton, and Amelia—grew up with the loving guidance of their great-grandfather, whose stories and laughter will echo in their memories.
Roy is further survived by his sisters Brenda Clinton, Vicki (Don), and Debbie Duncan (Darrell); his brother James Bellflower; son-in-law Donald Kestler, Jr., and many others whose lives he touched with generosity and humor. Each will remember Roy’s good sense of humor, his devotion to peace and quiet, and, above all, his unparalleled love for family.
He is now reunited in eternal rest with those who preceded him: his cherished daughter Delores Kestler; his parents; his brother Joseph E. Bellflower; and Onice Compast and Betty Jean Bland.
Friends, family, and the community are warmly invited to celebrate Roy’s extraordinary life. Visitation will be held on July 19th, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville, 10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY. A Mass of Christian Burial in Roy’s honor will follow on July 20th at 10:30 am at Incarnation Catholic Church, 2229 Lower Hunters Trace, Louisville, KY. Roy will be laid to rest with military honors at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, 2501 North Dixie Boulevard, Fort Knox, KY.
