Rose Lee Batson was born January 24, 1928 in Guntersville, AL to Leona Teague and Howard Trammel. Rose was her mother's only child and the oldest of her father's two girls.
Rose relocated to Louisville, KY at a young age and attended JCPS Schools, and went on to receive her High School Diploma from Central High School Class of 1942 1/2. Rose then went on to Beauty School and received her Beautician License and became a Master Beautician. Rose was known her famous "Batson Press & Curls". Her Curls were known to stay in place until they were washed out. Rose was blessed to be a stay at home Mom, and her husband built her a full service salon in their home. After 65 years of beautifying women, she retired from being a beautician at the age of 84.
Rose joined Guiding Star Baptist Church in 1959. She was a loyal servant of the Lord, and an active member of the Church. She was one of the Supervisors of the infamous "Guiding Stars" Choir, and served as the Primary Sunday School Department Superintendent for over 30 years. Rose aided on the Anniversary Committee at Guiding Star as well.
Rose met her late husband Odean at the age of 22 and it was love at first sight. She loved to tell the story of how they went out to the movies, and he paid her way in for a nickel (This was expensive at the time). Their Union went on to last for 60 years, at the time of his passing in 2010. Together they raised 5 boys, 2 adopted children, and helped raising numerous grandchildren.
Rose was preceded in death by her Husband, Odean B. Batson, her sister, Ollye B. Cunningham, her sons; Ronnie Threets, Kenny Batson, and Vester Batson, her grandchildren, Gary Threets, Jr., and Nia Batson.
Rose leaves to cherish her memory, her sons, Gary Threets, Sr., and James Batson, her adopted daughter & son, Damida Batson-Watts (Tony) and Amon DeJesus. She leaves 7 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.
Rose Batson was the true definition of a Rose. In Literature, Roses symbolize Love & Beauty, and in Christitanity, Roses symbolize Heaven & Harmony on Earth. Rose Batson lived up to her name, and was an Angel on Earth. We are blessed and thankful that the Lord saw fit for her to grace us with her presence, and she will truly be missed.
