Ronald Lee Smith

Ronald Lee Smith, 86, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2022. Ronald was a proud veteran of the United States Marines and a member of the VFW Hobart Beach Post 1693. He worked for Pillsbury for 38 years until his retirement and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in New Albany. Ronald enjoyed fishing, playing Euchre, watching Nascar and was a diehard IU basketball fan.

He was born on November 4, 1935 in Floyds Knobs, Indiana to the late Loren and Marie Grubbs Smith. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd Smith.

Ronald is survived by his loving wife of nearly 63 years, Rita Smith; children, Rhonda Fessel, Pamela (Dave) Rainier, Kenneth (Lori) Smith and Lisa (Eric) Sprigler; grandchildren, Tim (Kim) Fessel, Hollie (Tony) Mayfield, Brent Harris, Braden Rainier, Brooke Rainier, Allison (Corey) Barger, Matthew Smith and Hunter Sprigler; and great-grandchildren, Matt Ludwig, Taylor Fessel, Blake Mayfield, Maddie Ludwig, Roland Barger and Haylee Barger.

Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, April 4, 2022 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, at Holy Family Catholic Church (129 W. Daisy Ln, New Albany, IN) with burial to follow at St. Mary of the Knobs of Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Ronald's memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Make-A-Wish Foundation or the Alzheimer's Association.
