Ronald "Ron" Edmund Endris

Ronald “Ron” Edmund Endris, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2026, in Floyds Knobs, Indiana, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family. Born on June 21, 1938, in New Albany, IN, Ron’s life spanned 88 years filled with devotion, inquisitiveness, and steadfast affection for those around him.

Ron’s journey began in the heart of New Albany, where he attended and graduated proudly from New Albany High School. He continued his pursuit of knowledge at Indiana University Bloomington, achieving a master’s degree that would become the foundation for his life’s work. Ron’s love for learning was matched only by the joy he found in sharing knowledge; he began his teaching career at Hazelwood Junior High, continuing at Floyd Central, and later lending his insight to students at Indiana University Southeast. Through these years, Ron touched countless lives—not just as an educator, but as an inspiration and a mentor who sparked curiosity and wonder in his students.

His passion for science and discovery led to Ron’s involvement outside of the classroom as well. He was a founding member and the first president of the Indiana State Earth Science Teachers Association, reflecting both his personal fascination and his commitment to advancing science education. Ron also held membership in the Hoosiers Association of Science Teachers Incorporated and the National Science Teachers Association. He was active in his community, showing his generosity and leadership as a member of the New Albany Kiwanis Club and as a former member of St. Marks.

Family was always at the very heart of Ron’s world. As a devoted husband, Ron shared a lifetime of love and partnership with his wife, Teresa. His roles as father and grandfather brought him immeasurable joy, and he watched his family grow and succeed with pride. He is survived by his cherished wife Teresa Endris, loving daughter Tara Hengartner (Mark), and stepson Jeremy McCutcheon (Mandy). His grandchildren—Chance Miller (Emily,) Lily Miller (Gabe), Riley Miller, Jacob McCutcheon (Alysa), Blaise McCutcheon (Machayla), and Nova McCutcheon—brought so much light into his later years, and the arrival of his great-granddaughter, Aoife McCutcheon, was a blessing that filled his heart with even more happiness.

Ron’s own family legacy is colored by cherished memories and lasting bonds. He was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine Belviy Leffler, and his beloved daughter, Erin Endris—losses he carried with a heart full of remembrance and love.

Those who knew Ron will never forget his many passions, from rock collecting and fossil hunting, to traveling, being an avid I.U fan, and above all, spending precious time with his family. His children and grandchildren especially will remember the warmth of his embrace and the gentle lull of his voice as he sang “Moon River” to them—a tender gift passed lovingly from one generation to the next.

Ron’s personality shone brightly: he was intelligent, always eager to learn and to teach, a curious mind whose questions invited others to explore alongside him. Above all, he was compassionate—a man whose love extended without reservation to family, students, and friends.

As we gather to remember and celebrate Ron’s life, his spirit endures in the laughter of his grandchildren, the wisdom he shared, and the example of humble curiosity he set. His proudest accomplishment—watching his family grow and succeed—will remain as his enduring legacy.

Family and friends are invited to honor Ron’s memory at a Memorial Gathering on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN 47150. A Celebration of Life will follow at the same location from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.
