Ronald Lee Hayes, 78, known to most as Poppy, left this earth on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, after his love-filled, yet tired heart took its last beat at Clark Memorial Health.
Born on December 22, 1942, in Winslow, Indiana, Ronnie spent the majority of his working life on the road as a truck driver. Traveling across the United States for many years, his favorite place to go was home to his family.
Ronnie is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Nancy Hayes; daughters, Rondi Langdon (Timmy), Terri Moore (John); son, Donald Hayes (Missy); five grandchildren, Dustin Moore, Jessica Mardis (Shawne), Nikolette Langdon (Chase), Matthew Hayes, and Michael Hayes; and the world's sweetest great-granddaughter, Ava Grae Moore.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Leland Hayes; and grandson, Derick Vest.
Ronnie was a proud member of the Civil Defense, Jaycees, Steamboat Days, the Ole '97 Cooking Team, Truckers and Company Band, the Mason Lodge 340 and Eastern Star. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and the center of the Hayes universe. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Wednesday after 9:00 a.m. His funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at St. Joseph Hill Cemetery (2605 W.
