Ronald George Spainhour, Sr., 87, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at his home surrounded by his sons.
Ronald was born on October 20, 1928 in Floyd County to the late Scott and Ethel (Lee) Spainhour. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Spainhour; daughter-in-law, Pam Heinze; 2 sisters; and 5 brothers. Ronald served in the United States Army and retired from Alcan Aluminum. His adventures included scuba diving, deep sea fishing, whitewater rafting and traveling to New Orleans, Las Vegas and the state of Colorado.
Ronald and his family were blessed to have him an extra 24 years due to a liver transplant from the generosity of an organ donor and the family.
He is survived by his children, Ronald (Jane), Gregory, Glenn (Nancy), Dennis, Patrick (Cindy), & Richard; sister in law, Lizzy Spainhour; grandchildren; Patrick, Dustin & Laura Spainhour, Dora Beatrice, Jennifer Gordon, Katelyn Wager and Matthew Balmer; and great grandchildren; Lilly and Charleigh Spainhour, Andrew, Daniel, & Xavier Beatrice, and Madison Balmer. The entire family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to Ronetta Walker & Lori Peacock who took such wonderful care of Ronald in his final days.
Visitation will be 1 to 8 PM on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, IN). His Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Friday in the chapel at the funeral home with entombment and military honors to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
