Ronald W Brookins, a man defined by resilience, devotion, and a quiet strength, passed away on March 7, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on December 28, 1949, in Louisville, he carried with him throughout his life the values of hard work, humility, and steadfast determination.

Ron proudly served in the United States Army, where he rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSG). His military service was marked by distinguished leadership, unwavering dedication, and a commitment that earned him the respect and admiration of his peers. This period of his life forged in him the disciplined and dependable character that so many came to know and honor.

Beyond his service, Ron was an ardent believer in education and personal growth. He attended Fayetteville State University, embracing the importance of learning and perseverance to guide his journey. Though naturally reserved and quiet, those fortunate enough to know him well witnessed the depth of kindness, wisdom, and warmth he carried within. His generosity was evident in the way he continually reached out to support others—whether by offering advice, helping with employment, or sharing personal belongings that held special meaning.

Ron deeply cherished his family, finding his greatest joy in the love and care he shared with his beloved wife Wanita. Together, they built a home filled with compassion and strength. Ron’s sense of humor and ability to brighten a room were treasured by those around him. Simple pleasures, like a favorite grape soda or an engaging card game of solitaire online, brought him happiness and moments of peace.

His legacy lives on through his daughters Alba J. Brookins, Susan R. Hornbeck, Amy Kidd, and Raven Kidd, who carry forward his spirit and values. His grandchildren—Carlos Escudero, Miguel Escudero, Gabriela Escudero, and Daniel Reyes—remember him as a pillar of support and encouragement. As one grandchild shared, Papa Ron was a steadfast presence through life's many challenges, offering love, care, and inspiration that will endure always.

Ron is also lovingly remembered by those close to him, including his brother Derrick Jones, nieces Brionna Jones, Paris Jones,Chanasha Malone and Crystal Jones. and his loyal dog, Rudy Ray Moe, who was a faithful companion.

He was predeceased by his father, Anderson J. Brookins; mother, Clara M. Price; and brothers Larnell Brookins and Charles Jones. Their memories live on in the stories and hearts of those who knew him.

Though Ronald W Brookins may no longer walk among us, the strength, love, and wisdom he imparted remain a guiding light. His enduring impact on family, friends, and community stands as a testament to a life well-lived and a heart immeasurably generous. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
