Jean Romel Bazar, 60, of Jérémie Haiti, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026 at his home in Louisville, Kentucky with his family by his side. He was born September 16th, 1965. A Celebration of Life service will take place at Middletown United Methodist Church on April 7, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.
Romel graduated from the Enarts School of Arts in Port-au-prince, Haiti, with a degree in visual arts. He spent 20 years in Haiti making paintings, sculptures, and doing ceramics. Romel moved to Louisville, Kentucky, in June of 2007 to be with his wife. In Louisville, Romel worked as a dedicated and caring CNA and continued to paint. Romel loved nature, birds and music. He loved drawing on any thing his fingers could find. In his free time he loved doing crossword puzzles and sudoku.
Romel was preceded in death by his father Seid Bazar, his mother Catherine Chery Bazar, his brothers Pierre and Claudel Chery. He is survived by his wife Maclaine Lumas Bazar, his daughter Romlaine A. Bazar, his brother Edwich Bazar, his sisters Franklette Bazar (Bazile), Viola Bazar (Antoine), Bernadette and Jeanne Christa Bazar. His nephews are Romel Bazile, Kenwish and James Antoine. His nieces are Emily, Myriam, Viomele Bazar, Guerlyne Jabouin. His sisters-and-brothers-in-law are Dominique Clergeau and Wilner, Marianie, Jean Erick, Tutelle, Marie Michelle, Chrisla, Ernsa and Siffra Lumas.
Romel will be remembered for his unwavering integrity and his love for God, his family and for all people. His daughter is the apple of his eyes. Romel was kind, quiet, and a comedian to his family and friends. In Haiti, people knew him as a peacemaker. He was very humble and was a man of faith who loved Jesus and tried hard to follow Him. Up until the last hours of his life, he was saying Psalm 91.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Kentucky Methodist children home, as he always donated and prayed for those children. The Methodist Home of Ky P.O. Box 930 Nicholasville Ky 40340-9800.
Friends and family are invited to Middletown United Methodist Church at 11902 Old Shelbyville Road on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, for a visitation at 12:30 p.m, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:30 p.m.
