Roger Wayne Conley, Sr., was a loving father and the absolute proudest of grandfathers. He passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, following a valiant battle with cancer. He fought long and hard, knowing that each day that he did, he'd get another day with his family. He was a warrior in every sense of the word. Roger was a kindhearted, caring, and considerate man, as well. He was adored by all who knew him and will be missed by all who loved him.
Roger was born on May 24, 1954, in Rensselaer, Indiana, to the late Lowell and Barbara (Rater) Conley. He attended Kankakee Valley High School, where he was named first all-conference wrestler for his school. He graduated in 1972. Roger's warrior heart led him to join the US Navy, where he proudly served his country from 1974 to 1978 as a Naval Deep Seas Diver.
Following Roger's military service, he relocated to Fairfield, California, where he began a family and worked as a dependable and reliable mechanic at Woodard Chevrolet from 1987 until 2017. His skills would come in handy for anyone close to him. Roger was always eager to lend a helping hand, take a look at your vehicle, or give you the shirt off his back, all with a warm smile on his face.
Roger moved to Indiana with his daughter Jamie and son-in-law in the summer of 2018. He enjoyed his last years, frequently taking trips in his RV to visit loved ones and assisting in any way to help raise and be a part of his grandsons' lives. His bond and relationships with his grandkids were what, we believe, may have been Roger's most proud accomplishment of all.
Roger is survived by his daughter, Jamie (Robert Christiansen, Jr.) Conley; son, Roger Conley, Jr.; daughter, Renee (Marvin) Perry; brothers, Dave (Gina) Conley, Gary (Heidi) Conley, and Mark Conley; grandchildren, Robert and Lucas Christiansen and Lantana, Taran, and Caramon Perry; 5 nephews; 2 nieces; and 2 great-grandchildren.
Roger is preceded in death by his father, Lowell Conley; mother, Barbara Conley; and nephew, Andrew Conley.
Services will be held at a later date.
