Roberta Renee Nickell

Roberta Renee (Black) Nickell, 48, of Charlestown, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017. Renee loved to write and was a published author. Her true passion was caring for others when they needed it most. She was the foster parent to 28 children since 1988. Renee was selfless in her efforts to provide a loving home for children in need.

Renee is survived by her husband of 29 years, Martin "Marty" Nickell; sister, Peggy Jo Vessels; aunt and uncle, Sandy and Charles Coulter; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jody and Patricia Nickell; brother-in-law, Scott Nickell; and sister-in-law, Dana Chapman (Larry). She is preceded in death by her parents, Garry Vessels and Karen (Gramlin) Black; and her grandmother, Roberta VanMeter.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 27, 2017, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday. Her Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
