Robert Walters

Robert Walters passed away peacefully in Louisville, Kentucky, on August 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on July 18, 1951, in Louisville, and lived a life marked by service, hard work, loyalty, and deep devotion to the people he loved.

Robert proudly graduated from Ahrens High School and went on to attend Vincennes University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He was intelligent, driven, and always working to better himself, qualities that shaped both his personal life and his career. He served his country with pride during the Cold War in the Air Force and also as a member of the Army National Guard for more than 20 years. His dedication and excellence were recognized through the Silver Saber Sword, First Class honor, and he was first in his graduating class from Officers Candidate School.

After his military service, Robert worked for many years as a mechanic for his wife’s parents’ motorcycle company, Fink’s Kawasaki, beginning in 1976. He later became a painter for the University of Louisville, where his determination to keep learning led him to begin classes to earn his electrical engineering license. That commitment opened the way to a distinguished career with the University of Louisville hospital group, where he became Supervisor Engineer. He was an indispensable member of the hospital team, and his value to the University of Louisville Hospital was so widely recognized that for years his image appeared on a billboard overlooking the city.

Robert will be remembered as a hardworking, honest, and straightforward man. He was devoted to his family, loyal to his friends, and generous with his time and heart. He would do anything for his friends and for the community he served. He loved golf and fishing, and he treasured time spent with the friends who meant the world to him. As a member of the Clarksville JC’s, and the American legion, he built lasting connections, and he also enjoyed gathering with his community at Resch’s Tavern. For Robert, friendship was never casual; his friends were family.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, Louis Walters; his mother, Eva Glasgow; and his sister, Donna Crimmins.

Among his proudest accomplishments was watching his family grow and succeed, a joy that remained close to his heart. He is survived by, his daughter, Debra Walters-Mull (James); his nieces, Terry Glossinger and Lauri Watkins(Bo); and his nephew, Michael Crimmins. He also leaves behind many loving great-nieces and great-nephews, along with friends and extended family who will continue to carry his memory forward. In every role he held—as a father, son, brother, uncle, friend, veteran, and coworker—Robert gave of himself fully, and that love will not be forgotten.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana 47150. A second visitation will take place on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the same location. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, followed by burial from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Kraft Funeral Service & Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana 47150.

Robert Walters leaves behind a legacy of service, strength, friendship, and steadfast love. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
