Robert James Schafer, Sr.

Robert James "Rob" Schafer, Sr., 68, of Sellersburg, Indiana, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2018. He was a 1968 graduate of Clarksville High School and a United States Air Force veteran. Rob retired from LG&E and went on to work for CE Power Solutions. He was an avid fan of IU basketball and also enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in their various athletics at Providence High School, DeSales High School, and Presentation Academy.

He was born on March 14, 1950, in Scottsburg, Indiana, to the late Robert T. and Patricia (Baker) Schafer. Rob is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda (Garrett) Schafer; children, Cindy Behr (Russell), Tricia Filmer (Thomas, Sr.), Robert Schafer, Jr. (Holly), and Laura Schafer; siblings, Rick Schafer, Marty Schafer (Penny), Dawn Schafer, and Celine Day (John); aunt, Martha Vest; and 16 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2018, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Friday after 9:00 a.m. His funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (1752 Scheller Lane, New Albany) with entombment to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
